Let us introduce you to the Fuel Zone’s new mascot, Broccoli Bill.
In September last year we called on the young people of Glasgow to bring their favourite healthy food to life and create a character following the ‘healthy and happy’ theme.
Over 1000 entries were received from schools across the city.
Julia McCreadie, head of facilities management and encore, Councillor Chris Cunningham, city convenor for education, skills and early years and Ken Andrew, chairman of the Cordia board, were tasked with the difficult job of selecting our winner.
Ruairidh McKenzie, a P7 pupil from Clyde Primary School, won the competition with his wonderful Broccoli Bill design.
Bill was then made in to a full size mascot as well as being used across Fuel Zone marketing materials.
Julia McCreadie commented: “We were delighted to have had such a wonderful response to our mascot competition.
Ruairidh showed off his creative skills and produced a design which embodies both healthy eating and Scottish heritage.
We are absolutely delighted to introduce Broccoli Bill as our new Fuel Zone mascot.”
Councillor Cunningham said: “This has been a really fun competition for the primary school pupils – but an important learning opportunity too.
We all know the benefits and link with healthy eating and increased concentration so a competition that illustrates this to our children is a brilliant idea.
Let’s hope Broccoli Bill becomes a well-known face across the city – I think everyone will love him.”
